Designtour Cologne

“Spring is here, the sky is blue” or so The Dixie Cups sang in “Chapel of Love”. Of course, we did not get married in Cologne but nevertheless enjoyed a blue sky and nice spring weather.

From April 10th to April 13th Cologne played host to the KÖLNER LISTE, a vibrant contemporary art fair with more than 34 galleries and project spaces from ten different countries who presented their highlights at the DOCK.ONE venue.

Together with the KÖLNER LISTE; the mobility specialists at smart offered the possibility to delve even deeper into the electric and electric art scene of the German metropolis: Safe in the saddle of a bona fide design classic in its own right – the smart ebike – art and design enthusiasts could take a guided tour of select art and design hotspots.

A total of four different tours, attended by almost 100 agile aesthetes, explored 8 select spots throughout the city. The tours had an average length of 20 kilometers and took about 2 to 3 hours to complete. The tours included exciting spots such as the Museum of Applied Arts (MAKK), specialists of customized lampshades DROOM or the Skulpturenpark where the cyclists could experience sculptures by renowned international artists such as Anish Kapoor or Joel Shapiro.

The participants did not only enjoy the spots but also the smart ebike. What a unique experience! Some even “regretted” the short distance between some of the spots…

Ionna Gogolin from Cologne design blog Designspotter saddled up for bettery magazine. Keep your eyes open as her thoughts and impressions on each of the spots will be published here over the next few days.

For those of you who could not make it to Cologne, there is no reason to be sad: the smart ebike design tour continues! We will be back already in May for the summer opening of the Museumsquartier in Vienna and continue our exciting journey to Spain for the Barcelona Design Week in June. We are looking forward to see you there!
